Who We Are

Our passion for developing solar photovoltaic and agrivoltaic projects has formed over the past 15 years. We have a particular focus on agrivoltaic projects as we believe that clean energy can be generated while preserving valuable agricultural land.

We are developing over 4 projects totalling c. 350MW in Sicily, of which 3 are permitted. In Central and Southern Italy we are developing 8 projects totalling c. 300MW, which are at varying stages of the permitting procedure. Once operational, the portfolio will have a combined enterprise value of c. EUR 900 million. We expect the majority of the pipeline to be at 'Ready To Build' stage by the mid-2026, with the remaining projects achieving Ready To Build by the end of 2026.

Off the back of experience gained in our solar project developments, Sycamore Energy has recently diversified its activities to include the development of Battery Energy Storage Systems ("BESS") across Italy. We believe that as the capacity of large scale clean energy plants come into operation, BESS will be an integral solution to grid balancing requirements.

"In recent years, we have seen the cost of equipment used to build solar plants fall while efficiency increases, resulting in an asset class that not only competes commercially with traditional energy producers but does so using a truly sustainable and predictable fuel – sunlight."

What We Do

Sycamore Energy has been developing solar PV projects since 2010, primarily in Italy, where we have built a dedicated and experienced local team. We specialise in identifying sites with potential to develop solar PV and agrivoltaic plants which will have a positive impact on the local environment and community. For more information, please see the Butera 1 project.

Once a target site is secured, we work with local engineers, environmental scientists, universities and in the case of agrivoltaic projects, agronomists and farmers to design a project that will not only be financially viable but will also benefit local stakeholders.

We also work with a number of industry stakeholders from PPA providers, EPC and O&M contractors and professional advisors to investment funds and senior lenders. Sycamore Energy is independent and is not in an exclusive relationship with any of the above (in order to be flexible and adapt to changing market conditions).

Sycamore Energy seeks to build trusted relationships with its partners in order to reduce project costs and improve bankability, with the overall aim of optimising returns and creating projects designed for long-term value.

BESS Project Development

Sycamore Energy is actively looking for suitable sites for the development of BESS projects. We are interested in low grade agricultural or industrial land in Italy that can be purchased (our preference) or leased for a period of 30 years, in close proximity to a grid connection point.

Interested in partnering with us?

If you have a potential site, or know of someone looking to purchase or lease their land, please do get in touch.

AgriPV

AgriPV (or Agrivoltaics) combines the use of land for agricultural food production and the generation of solar power at the same time.

In this way, AgriPV increases land efficiency and enables the expansion of solar power generation while preserving arable land for agriculture. Subject to local weather conditions, vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and root vegetables can be grown. Other crops can include olive oil, aloe vera and grasses used for bio-fuel.

Sycamore Energy is an early adopter of the principles of AgriPV, and incorporates this ethos into the project design where feasible, without it having a negative impact on the local flora, fauna or avifauna.

Battery Energy Storage Systems ("BESS")

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) represent a rapidly growing sector in Italy's energy landscape, playing a crucial role in supporting the country's transition to renewable energy. As Italy continues to expand its solar and wind capacity, BESS technology provides essential grid stabilisation services, helping to balance supply and demand fluctuations inherent in renewable energy generation. The Italian energy market is increasingly recognising BESS as vital infrastructure for achieving energy security, supporting grid resilience, and enabling the integration of large-scale clean energy projects. Government incentives and regulatory frameworks are evolving to support BESS deployment, creating favourable conditions for investment and development across the country.

Sycamore Energy is in the early stages of developing a comprehensive pipeline of BESS projects throughout Italy, leveraging our extensive experience in renewable energy development and our established network of local partners. Building upon our successful track record with solar PV and agrivoltaic projects, we are applying the same methodical approach to identify optimal locations for battery storage facilities. Our BESS development strategy focuses on sites with strategic grid access, suitable land characteristics, and potential for long-term value creation. We are actively evaluating opportunities across multiple regions, working closely with grid operators, local authorities, and landowners to develop projects that will contribute to Italy's energy transition while delivering strong returns for stakeholders.
